Xohana Roles Descriptions

Admins (Moof & Dixon)

The Admins maintain the infrastructure of the server and make sure all the technology works as it should. Given Discord’s requirement there be a single Server Owner, which maintains the highest permissions clearance, this role is always two people and can only be changed by unanimous Council vote (from which Admin votes are excluded). Otherwise, this role is largely ceremonial and server decisionmaking power rests with the Council, Organizers, and the collective vote of the Players.

Booster

Boosters are members who support the server by using Discord Nitro to boost Xohana. Their contributions unlock important perks for the community, like increased emoji slots, better audio quality in voice channels, animated icons, and custom backgrounds for invites.

While Boosters don’t receive in-game advantages, they do get access to occasional thank-you rewards, which can be found in the Booster/Patreon section of the guide. Boosting is entirely optional, but it helps us keep the server running smoothly and looking great, and we’re grateful for every bit of support.

Dragonspeaker

Dragonspeakers are Xohana’s specialists in Avrae, alias scripting, and server bot automations. If something behind the curtain is ticking along smoothly, it’s likely because a Dragonspeaker set it up. They handle the invisible infrastructure that keeps downtime, dice, and digital tools running cleanly.

While Helpers support players and Organizers maintain systems, Dragonspeakers work in code and commands, solving problems that most people don’t even know exist until they break. Whether it’s updating an alias, fixing a bot error, or creating new functionality for server systems, they’re called in when something needs a little arcane tuning.

They’re not expected to be on-call constantly, but when a Helper runs into a wall with Avrae or server mechanics, it’s the Dragonspeakers who answer the call. If you’re someone who enjoys making tools, troubleshooting quietly in the background, or being the go-to wizard when the scroll of automation fails, this role was built for you.

Game Masters (GMs)

GMs are the creative engine of Xohana. They are storytellers, world-shapers, and co-authors of a shared universe. Rather than owning a personal story arc or corner of the world, GMs here are encouraged to share plotlines, NPCs, and narrative threads with one another.

GMs are trusted to maintain mechanical balance, uphold server rules, and record accurate quest logs. We ask that prospective GMs play in a minimum of five sessions before applying, to get a feel for how our systems work and how story continuity is maintained across the board.

You’ll also gain access to the full shared D&D Beyond campaign, which includes 100+ sourcebooks and adventure materials to use in your games.

If you’re drawn to crafting memorable stories, building shared lore, and collaborating with others to create something bigger than any one GM can carry alone, then you’re already one of us.

Helpers

Helpers are the connective tissue of Xohana. They’re the first friendly face most players meet, the folks who answer questions at midnight, explain rules without condescension, and gently guide players through their first steps on the station. If you’ve ever asked “Is this okay?” or “Where do I start?” then chances are, a Helper had your back.

While Helpers assist with moderation, their primary role is community care. They help maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where players can feel confident trying new things, learning the game, and engaging with the world. That includes answering questions, flagging issues, clarifying rules, and keeping an eye on tone and culture across the server.

Helpers often serve as bridges between players and the GM Team, or between new folks and more complex systems. Many Helpers eventually go on to become GMs, Organizers, or Lorekeepers, although many are perfectly content as a part of the Helper Team.

If you find joy in supporting others, making people feel seen, and helping a big world feel just a little more manageable, this is your role.

APPLY TO BE A HELPER

Lorebrarian

Lorebrarian are the scribes behind the storytellers. They gather the scattered threads of player actions, quest outcomes, and narrative arcs and help weave them into the living history of the universe. In a world as interconnected as Xohana, Lorebrarians help prevent characters and plots from existing in a vacuum.

Through the S.E.N.S.O.R. Network, they maintain the official records of major events, track ongoing plotlines, and highlight opportunities for other players and GMs to tie their own stories into what’s already happening. Good Lorebrarians are curious, collaborative, and detail-minded. They're just as excited to track a multi-faction political drama as they are to summarize a chaotic one-shot gone off the rails.

If you love seeing the big picture, helping others find story hooks, or being the person who remembers what happened “three real-life months ago in game time,” then you might already be a Lorebrarian at heart.

APPLY TO BE A LOREBRARIAN

Merchant

Merchants are volunteers who help bring Xohana’s economy to life, adding flavor and depth by stepping into the scene as shopkeepers and offering players a chance to experience the station’s markets in character. When a character goes shopping, either with their daily Magic Shop roll or simply at one of the general goods stores in Starfall Square, they can ping for a Merchant to roleplay the encounter.

Merchants aren’t required to respond, but when they do, they step join the scene with an appropriate NPC as designated by the shop: sometimes a defined character created by GMs/staff, other times one of their own. Most shops allow Merchants to create a single custom NPC within given guidelines, while others may use established staff to maintain consistency. All shopkeepers are mechanically Commoners and exist purely for roleplay purposes.

Merchant interactions don’t change prices, rules, or outcomes, they simply make shopping more interesting. A character might visit a cursed discount shop, spar with a snobbish clerk at a high-end boutique, or charm their way through a potion dealer’s quirks. They might even run into the same NPC twice, and find that rudeness has consequences.

The Merchant role is open to Players, GMs, Helpers, and anyone else who applies and is approved. It’s a light, flavorful way to contribute to the world of Xohana and help the station feel more alive, one transaction at a time.

APPLY TO BE A MERCHANT

Organizers

Organizers are the stewards of Xohana’s systems and long-term health. While not “above” other roles, they take on responsibility for maintaining the server’s infrastructure, reviewing proposed changes, and ensuring that our rules, tools, and community culture all work together in harmony.

These are the people who quietly ensure the gears are turning, the documents are up to date, and that new ideas are integrated smoothly into the server’s living structure. Whether it’s designing a new mechanic, facilitating a vote, resolving a dispute, or coordinating a collaborative project, Organizers help keep the whole machine running.

Most Organizers have experience as GMs, designers, or system thinkers, but what matters most is a collaborative mindset, clear communication, and the ability to balance individual creativity with the needs of a shared world.

If you’re the kind of person who loves building frameworks, spotting bottlenecks, and helping a community thrive behind the scenes, the Organizer role might be your calling.

APPLY TO BE AN ORGANIZER

Player

Players are the beating heart of Xohana. Whether you’re diving into high-stakes quests, exploring hidden corners of the station, or just roleplaying in the plaza with your crew, you’re helping shape the living story of this world.

There’s no experience required to join, just curiosity, respect for others, and a willingness to engage. If you’ve read through the Server Guide and asked a Helper for support where needed, you’re ready to jump in.

Other Roles

You may see a variety of other roles listed on your own or other user’s accounts throughout the server. If the role is not listed above, then the role is likely related to lore or other server organization. You can ask a Helper in the #help channel if you are curious what a particular role means.

Council of Overgods

Who Are They?

In the vast, woven tapestry of the Xohana universe, the Council of Overgods stands as the ultimate authority. From an in-character perspective, these Overgods are the architects of reality, each one a powerful deity from a different universe, brought together by the cataclysm that merged their worlds.

Initially, this led to chaos and conflict, but over time, they reached a divine accord. Now, they work in unison to maintain the balance of this new reality, weaving their individual visions into one cohesive universe.

Why Do I Care?

From an out-of-character perspective, the Council of Overgods is the team of Game Masters and Organizers who guide the direction of the server. They ensure that changes to the game's mechanics, lore, and rules are made thoughtfully and collaboratively.

Whenever a new decision is needed, from introducing new rules or adjusting mechanics, these GMs gather, discuss, and vote anonymously to ensure fair and balanced outcomes. Player input is always valued, and suggestions from the community are considered equal among Council voices, ensuring that the world of Xohana remains cohesive and engaging for everyone (see Player Suggestions).

Writ of Khan

The agreement forged between the Overgods and created the Council, the Writ of Khan has one core tenet: no Overgod may warp the threads of reality without the consent and/or indifference of the others. This meant that influences of any one Overgod, and the resulting consequences, would permanently ripple out and affect the others.

In rare circumstances, however, the various chaotic whims of the Overgods align and a unanimous decision is reached to tear and reweave the threads of this reality. Time, memory, matter, physics, all can and have been rewritten and are likely to do so again in the future. All the while, the residents of this Xohanaverse are none-the-wiser, the power of the Writ of Khan providing them with the necessary retroactive continuity.

Player Suggestions

Xohana thrives on the creativity and passion of its adventurers. The Council of Overgods is always listening for the next great idea to help our universe grow in new directions. Whether you want to propose a new mechanic, add a feature to downtime, or suggest an event that will ripple through Xohana, your voice matters.

Our Promise

Every idea is heard. The Council aims for transparency, periodic feedback, and open votes for big decisions. If your proposal isn’t adopted, don’t be discouraged, we value all creative input and many features started as a simple idea. Help shape the living world of Xohana. Your next suggestion might be what changes the game for everyone.

How to Submit a Suggestion

  1. Draft Your Idea

Please describe your suggestion clearly and in detail. Explain both the story impact and the mechanical function, and include draft rules if possible. The more thorough and thought-out your proposal, the easier it is for the Council and the community to review.

  1. Community Feedback

Before submitting, we encourage you to share your idea with fellow players, DMs, or in #suggestions-discussion. Gathering feedback, gauging interest, and refining the idea with others increases its chances of adoption.

  1. Submission

When ready, post your finalized idea in the #suggestions channel, or submit it directly via the official Suggestions Form (see pinned link). Tag it with the category that best fits: rules change, content addition, event proposal, or other.

What Happens Next

Council Review & Vote

All formal suggestions are reviewed by the Council of Overgods, who will consider both player input and the broader health of the game. If your suggestion is specific to a session or small group, a GM may handle it directly; if it affects the entire server, it moves to Council Review and vote.

Player Vote

For suggestions that could significantly shape the server or impact all players, the Council may decide to put the idea to a server-wide vote. When this happens, all players are allowed to place an anonymous vote during the timeframe, and the majority community vote counts for 3 Council votes. This means the broader player community has direct influence, especially on matters that affect gameplay for all.

Community Vote

During suggestion submission, you may request that the suggestion be taken up as a “Community Vote.” In this instance, the suggestion will be immediately put up for vote for 48 hours to the entire community, with one vote per person regardless of roles.

A quorum of 75% of community membership is required for a Community Vote to be considered valid, and the suggestion must have “Yes” votes equal or greater to 66% of community membership in order to pass. If there are not enough “Yes” votes, or a quorum is not reached, the vote does not pass. Each community member may submit ONE Community Vote per month.

Tips for a Successful Suggestion

When submitting, consider:

  • How does this idea make Xohana a better place to play?
  • What story and roleplaying opportunities does it unlock?
  • Are the mechanics clear, balanced, and playtestable?
  • Have you discussed the idea with other players, and is there visible support?
  • Does it impact only your group, or the entire server?
  • Could this idea be tried as a temporary event or quest before becoming a permanent rule?

The more actionable, balanced, and community-minded your suggestion, the more likely it is to be implemented.

Weak Suggestion:

  • “I think characters should be able to run businesses on the station.”

(This suggestion lacks detail. How would it work, and what impact would it have on story, gold, or Downtime?)

Strong Suggestion:

  • “I’d like to introduce player-owned businesses as a Downtime option. Characters could invest gold and Downtime days, then roll a series of checks (based on their business’s type) to determine profit, events, and story hooks for future sessions. This system could use the server’s Brewing Downtime activity as a baseline, but tweaked for more flexibility in what goods and services one can create. I’ve shared the draft in #suggestions-discussion and several players expressed interest.”

(This suggestion shows forethought, descriptive reasoning, community support, and direction to more information.)
